RNCM to feature Autumn season of online attractions

There will be something musical to enjoy for free online from the RNCM throughout Autumn on a weekly basis.

RNCM
The Autumn series will be broadcast for free on-line

The Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in Manchester has announced its Autumn season of online events.

Although the conservatoire remains closed to the public, staff and students will provide 'Live from the RNCM' — a series of 'Thursday Lates' and 'Monday Lunchtime' concerts live-streamed from the RNCM Concert Hall.

Performances will feature collaborations with guests including Sir Mark Elder, Manchester Collective, the Apollo Saxophone Quartet and Elias String Quartet, as well as a range of student-led projects.

Streaming facilities

Professor Linda Merrick, RNCM Principal, told 4BR: "Over the past few months we have invested heavily in our capture and streaming facilities, allowing us to develop our live-streamed performance opportunities for people to enjoy all over the world.

While it saddens me greatly that we cannot yet invite audiences back to our venues, we've worked hard to create a season that embodies everything that we stand for, and I'm excited to see it unfold."

Masterclasses

Autumn 2020 will also feature a series of masterclasses and Q&As with Insights, a series of inspirational sessions with artists such as Chineke!'s Chi Chi Nwanoku, composer Anna Meredith, mezzo-soprano Alice Coote, and trumpeter Tine Thing Helseth.

Manus Carey, Deputy Principal (Performance and Programmes), added: "I'm really delighted that we are still able to share a very diverse online broadcast programme of music and chat with our audience, and demonstrate some of the fantastically creative, engaging and innovative work which our young musicians are doing alongside

RNCM staff musicians and some very exciting guest collaborators. This is an opportunity not only to hear a wide range of great music, but also to get to know some of the personalities moulding the future of our musical landscape.'
