There are further signs that the brass band movement may be slowly moving back towards normality in the New Year, with Higham Hall in Cockermouth in Cumbria looking forward to hosting a Brass Band Weekend in February.
It does of course all depend on what the COVID-19 regulations and guidance will be at the time (19th-21st February), but it is hoped that the venue will be able to accommodate delegates for what they call, "…a serious, yet relaxed weekend for brass band players to rehearse and perform popular, and perhaps lesser-known, brass band repertoire."
The course is being led by Grimethorpe Colliery Band MD and renowned euphonium soloist David Thornton and professional musicians Andy Kershaw (tuba) and Martyn Grisdale (cornet).
Courses
Higham Hall was originally built in 1825. It is now an independent Educational Trust attracting around 3,000 adults each year on over 250 courses of lengths from half a day to up to a week. Higham is on the northern edge of the Lake District, between Cockermouth and Keswick and only a mile from Bassenthwaite Lake.
It recently re-opened following the Cornonarivus pandemic and follows correct guidance laid out by our Government in partnership with the Health and Safety Executive and Public Health England,
