Willebroek launch solo competition

There will be a rare opportunity for soloists to perform on stage to a worldwide audience at the new Brass Band Willebroek Solo Competition — with the chance to bag some hefty cash prizes too.

Willebroek
The Brass Band Willebroek contest has a host of attractive prizes to tempt solo performers

After hosting their recent successful online soloist contest, Belgian champion, Brass Band Willebroek is now organising a new event with a prize fund of 5,000 Euros.

The BBW Solo Competition will take place on Sunday 22nd November at the Municipal Theater Willebroek and will be run with strict adherence to COVID-19 guide lines and regulations.

Four categories

The competition will include four age category contests, and is open to anyone from around the musical world to take part (regulations permitting of course).

The four events will take place on the day in two separate halls — both adjudicated by a respected professional jury consisting of Arthur Vanderhoeft, Bastien Baumet, Kristien Schuurmans and Luc Vertommen.

Event spokesperson Lode Violet told 4BR: "This first edition is all about a safe organiSation. There are still many ideas that we want to realize but are not possible due to the current circumstances.

We certainly hope to give brass players a new purpose in these strange times with some fantastic prizes, so our thanks go to our main sponsors, Lemca Musical Instruments, Buffet Crampon, Yuja, the Municipal of Willebroek and many others who support us."

The winner of the 'Blue Riband' highest category will also take home with them 1,000 Euros4BR

Top awards

The Blue Riband category will also be live streamed by Yuja and a live report combined with several interviews by the popular Dutch brass band media outlet, CU Brass.

As an interactive spectator you can also act as a judge yourself. Everyone will have a vote to be part of the 'Audience Prize' that will be presented alongside 250 Euros.

The other prizes also included commissioned works dedicated to the winners by composers Stijn Aertgeerts and Nick Van Elsen, lessons with one of the soloists of Brass Band Willebroek, vouchers from Lemca Musical Instruments, Buffet Crampon and Hal Leonard and the opportunity to perform as a soloist accompanied by (Young) Brass Band Willebroek.

The winner of the 'Blue Riband' highest category will also take home with them 1,000 Euros.
