Scouting honour for horn star

Andrew Naylor of Friendly Brass Band near Sowerby Bridge will gain one of the highest awards in the scouting movement duo to his wonderful tribute playing week in week out for the NHS.

Andrew Naylor has performed every week to pay tribute to NHS workers.

Andrew Naylor (13) of Halifax, West Yorkshire has just been awarded one of the highest accolades in the Scouting movement.

Andrew plays tenor horn in his local Scout band as well as Elland Sliver Youth, and is the youngest member of nearby Friendly Brass Band near Sowerby Bridge.

NHS tribute

He gained the award after playing a solo every Thursday at 8.00pm outside his home to pay tribute the thousands of workers in the NHS. He continues to do so, despite the weekly initiative no longer being undertaken.

Andrew has also been nominated for a BrassFest UK award and continues to look forward to returning to playing with his band — and teaming up with its oldest playing member, the legendary former LSO trombonist Frank Mathieson who at 92, is seventy-nine years older than him.

National media

Speaking to photographer Lorne Campbell who took pictures to be sent to the national media, he said: "I liked the sound of brass instruments which I first heard at school, and have really taken to the tenor horn."
