4BR has been informed of the death of the hugely respected bandsman Ken Taken.
Ken died at home surrounded by his family. He was 88.
Respected
Known throughout the banding movement, Ken enjoyed a lifetime of brass band music making around the UK — both as a respected player and administrator.
He was a player in the Shaftesbury Crusade (Bristol) Band, City of Coventry, Morris Motors Band and in more recent years, was the driving force behind the most successful years of Bournemouth Concert Brass. He was also very proud to succeed Eric Ball to become the Band's Life President.
Cherish
Speaking on behalf of the family, his son Nigel, who followed in his father's musical footsteps in the banding world, said: "There is great sadness at this time, but the family has been touched by the messages of condolence and kind memories that we have received.
We will cherish his memory and ensure we will hold a memorial concert in his honour when circumstances allow."
