Fairey Band continues to reshape its line-up following the appointment of Adam Cooke as its new Musical Director with the news of the appointment of Emma Conway as its new solo horn.

Family connection

The appointment renews a family connection to the Stockport Band, with her father, Sean, and uncle, Lee Rigg being former members.

A product of the remarkable Wardle Band, Emma now joins following an enjoyable time spent studying in Norway at the Manger Folkehogskole, where she also played with the top flight Manger Musikklag and Tertnes Bands.

Great move

From September she will continue her studies at the RNCM with Owen Farr, who told 4BR: "Emma is without doubt one of the most talented students I've had the pleasure of teaching and she is fast becoming a well established performer.

It's a great move both for her and Fairey."

Musical Director Adam Cooke is certainly delighted at the move: "Emma has a mature musical approach and style.

Her appointment continues the band's commitment to investing in the best young brass players, and I'm looking forward to introducing her to perform for our audiences in the near future."

Excited

In response, Emma added: "I'm excited to be starting my next musical chapter with Fairey and following in the footsteps great horn players such as Sandy Smith and Owen Farr.

It's going to be a very exciting time for the band and I can't wait to be part of it."
