Unfortunately, it has been confirmed that the 2020 Dr Martin Wainstone Cup contest has been cancelled.
The popular event was to have taken place on Sunday 20th September, but due to the ongoing restrictions over social distancing and well being guidelines the organisers have decided to take the decision. The event will now return on 19th September 2021.
Lucrative
The Dr Martin contest has grown in popularity on the last few years with its generous prize money fund with a first prize of £4,000 an increasingly lucrative attraction for bands in the North East and beyond.
A spokesperson told 4BR: "Sadly, the Coronavirus has taken its toll on the contest this year and led to the decision being taken by the trustees.
In addition to the ongoing health concerns of participants, organisers and audience, the excellent facilities at Yarm School and the Princess Alexander Auditorium are also being utilised for the return to education for pupils."
Next year
They added: "The Trustees of the Martin Bequest would like to thanks all the bands that entered this year's contest and we look forward to seeing everyone next year."
