Florent Didier, the inspirational driving force behind the rise to European wide prominence of Paris Brass Band has announced that he is to set down from his role as Musical & Artistic Director.
Cycle complete
Speaking to 4BR he said: "After more than 12 years as the Musical & Artistic director of the Paris Brass Band that I saw arise and grow, the cycle is complete and now is the time to move on.
The band has been such an important part of my life and an ensemble which let me live incredible and unique musical moments. So, I would like to thank all the musicians who made the PBB become what it is today — thanks to everyone who has accompanied this journey through all those years."
Special friend
In his announcement, Florent also took the opportunity to reserve special thanks to his friend and Band President, Dominique Collin, who is currently recovering from illness. "He has been with me all the way on this journey — it could not have been done without him. He is a very special man."
Reflecting on the past 12 years which saw Paris rise from obscurity to claim six National Championship titles, the French Open and come runner-up at the 2019 European Championships, he said: "It all started off with the idea of a small group of students at the Paris CNSM and ended at the European Championships in Switzerland last year
I would have loved to have been able to conduct the band at the British Open Championships but that was not to be, but the memories of these great events and the concerts around France and the world we did together will live with me forever.
These were always the most rewarding experiences with loyal audiences, ensembles and organizers who invited us. I am proud of what we achieved together to promote brass band music making for young musicians and audiences.
I am positive this amazing ensemble will keep on living, developing and making wonderful large-scale projects in the future. I will always remain its first and foremost supporter!Florent Didier
New direction
He added: "I wish all the best to Laurent Douvre who takes on the conducting role as the new Musical & Artistic Director.
I am positive this amazing ensemble will keep on living, developing and making wonderful large-scale projects in the future. I will always remain its first and foremost supporter!"
