Fairlop Brass Band has announced the death of their founder, first Musical Director and Life-President, Dennis Carney.
He passed away just a few weeks short of his 84th birthday, following a lifetime devoted to music and teaching.
Founder
A spokesperson told 4BR: "Dennis founded the Fairlop Junior School Brass Band, later to become Fairlop Brass, in June 1968 and remained as Musical Director until 1984 when he was appointed Life President.
Many of the principles he instilled in the band remain today. He also founded the Gaynes School (Upminster) Brass Band which ran for many years after his retirement, but sadly no longer exists.
Dennis inspired countless people with his love of music, and so many active musicians, both professional and amateur, owe their musical career to him."
