Cory to take lead on indoor unity

The world's number 1 ranked band will be leading the way once again with their latest musical call for unity...

Philip Harper and Cory Band hope to link up the brass, wind and marching band worlds

Cory Band has announced that it has launched its latest ambitious musical project.

The band aims to link up across the musical mediums of brass, wind and marching bands by performing a new world premiere of a work that was originally destined to be part of the climax to the 2020 Indoor Music Games.

Anthem

That leading event was cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic, and would have seen the world's number 1 ranked band premiere Philip Harper's composition, 'IMG Anthem — Unity' alongside the performers from all the various competing ensembles.

However following the success of their hugely popular social media performances, the band will now present it as one of their 'distance banding video' presentations, with technology enabling the music to be shared with players who can then join them in a future mass ensemble performance.

Ambitious

Speaking about the project Cory MD Philip Harper said: "We are launching an ambitious project which we hope, in these bleak times for musicians, will link up many banding worlds: the brass band world, the wind band world, the marching band world, in fact any band which would like to join!

Cory players are busy rehearsing the piece in their various homes ready for its world premiere as a 'distance banding' video, launching next weekend."

Exciting

In response, IMG Chairman, Andy Hewlett added: "Linking with Cory Band would have been incredibly exciting, especially the first performance of the newly commissioned IMG Anthem, which we have called Unity.

The original idea was to have the band flanked by all musicians on the day and playing it together. Now, everyone at IMG is excited to bring you the anthem in this spectacular way."

'IMG Anthem — Unity' will be made available through our partner channels and beyond for everyone to join in and be a part of one big, showstopping final edit playing alongside the Cory BandPaul Morgan

Looking forward

That sentiment was echoed by Paul Morgan, Chairman of Thurrock Marching Band and the IMG board member responsible for commissioning the piece.

"We are very much looking forward to bringing together the brass band and the marching and performance worlds. 'IMG Anthem — Unity' will be made available through our partner channels and beyond for everyone to join in and be a part of one big, showstopping final edit playing alongside the Cory Band.

Full details of how to join in the project will be shared after the first release. Music binds so many of us across the world and this is a chance to get involved with something that helps to define that. We couldn't be more excited to bring this project to you all."

Further information

Cory's world premiere performance of 'IMG Anthem — Unity' will be released on 23rd May on its YouTube and other social media channels.
