Whilst there continues to be an ongoing list of cancellation announcements made in the UK concerning brass band contests and events, the organisers of the Siddis Entertainment Championships in Stavanger in Norway have informed 4BR that they are still hopeful that their event will take place on November 7th.
The Championships which first took place in 1983 are held at the multi-stage Stavanger Konserthus, with the Elite and First Division contests usually taking place in the 1500 seat Faretin Valen auditorium.
Other sections take place in the Zetlitz multi-purpose hall which can seat up to 1700 people, as the nearby 1000 seat Kuppelhallen.
Focus
Siddis Brass Committee spokesperson Steffen Rogne told 4BR: "As arrangers, we are of course speaking to all relevant governing bodies, and health and safety is our main focus.
The Covid-19 situation is making the planning of any event this year difficult, but Norway is starting to open up, and we do not know how the situation will be in six months. If the numbers continue to improve there remains a good possibility of us being able to arrange Siddis Brass."
We will never go through with an event that is unsafe, and we will never take any shortcuts or bend any rules to make this event happen at any costSteffen Rogne
No shortcuts
However Steffen added: "We will never go through with an event that is unsafe, and we will never take any shortcuts or bend any rules to make this event happen at any cost.
If we have to cancel due to Covid-19, any fees will of course be fully reimbursed to the bands."
