The Brighouse March & Hymn Tune Contest is the latest popular brass band event to announce its cancellation due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.

2020 would have been the 21st anniversary for the outdoor contest and concert weekend of entertainment right in the heart of Yorkshire brass band country.

Difficult decision

However, concerns over the safety and well being of competitors, audience and organisers told 4BR that the difficult decision had to be made.

Graham Horsfield on behalf of the Brighouse & District Lions Club told 4BR that all bands that originally entered the event have been informed, but "safety and the well-being of everyone was our top priority."

Graham thanked the raft of sponsors who have given "outstanding support"to the event and that they now look forward to putting on the popular competition weekend in 2021."
