North American Brass Band Summer School cancelled

The cancellation of Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo has meant that the popular NABBSS Course has been put back a year.

The North American Brass Band Summer School (NABBSS), due to take place in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada at the end of June, has been cancelled.

Founded in 2014, NABBSS has enjoyed a close relationship with the world famous Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo (RNSIT) and for the past six years has played an increasingly important role as cast members to great acclaim.

However, on March 19th it announced the cancellation of this year's event originally scheduled for June 27th — July 4th.

Planning

RNSIT Managing Director and Executive Producer, Scott Long stated: "Although it may seem premature to cancel at this time, a show as large and complex as ours with an international cast requires extraordinary lead time when planning for any scenario."

Given the current unprecedented global situation it was a decision NABBSS Musical Director Dr Robert Childs fully understood.

"NABBSS has been intrinsically linked to the RNSIT since its inception, so following the announcement to cancel, coupled with the future challenges our sponsors will undoubtedly face and the growing uncertainties that continue to surround us all, we've taken the decision to cancel NABBSS 2020 in the best interests of our staff and delegates."

We are however confident that both RNSIT and NABBSS will return in 2021 and plans are already being put in place to ensure the success of a 2021 North American Brass Band Summer SchoolDr Robert Childs

Although dates are yet to be set, Dr Childs told 4BR that tutors are confirmed and potential delegates can register their interest in attending NABBSS 2021 via www.nabbss.ca
