Two major brass band competitions have announced that due to the Coronavirus pandemic that their 2020 events have been cancelled.
Buxton
The Buxton Brass Band Festival run by the NWABBA has told 4BR that they have taken the decision that it was "impossible"to run their event which was due to take place on 17th May. All bands that had entered will have their entry fees refunded but it is hoped that the organisation's popular Rochdale contest can be held in October.
Bugle
Meanwhile, the West of England Bandsmen's Festival planned to take place in the village of Bugle on June 20th has also been cancelled.
Their spokesperson stated that the decision was in keeping with the latest government advice regarding public gatherings and with the duty of care to protect both the elderly and those that have underlying health conditions.
They added that they were "devastated"that the action had to be taken. The 2021 contest will hopefully take place Saturday 19th June.
