Four talented musicians took the opportunity to test their adjudication skills at the Yorkshire Regional Championships in Huddersfield on the weekend.
As part of the ongoing partnership between the Yorkshire Regional Committee and the Association of Brass Band Adjudicators, the budding judges were mentored by conductor and ABBA Training Officer Martin Heartfield, as they enjoyed forming their opinions on the performances in the Second Section on Saturday afternoon.
Great initiative
Speaking on the day Martin told 4BR: "This is a great initiative that continues to provide an ideal opportunity for young people to understand the musical challenges involved in making an informed adjudication decision at a brass band contest.
Our thank go to the Yorkshire Regional Committee for allowing us to it again and to the contest judges David Hirst and Sarah Groarke Booth who were involved. The participants had a great time, all were very well informed — and all came up with the same decision as David and Sarah!"
The four participants were Matthew Currie and Dubrusia Mazur from Elland Band, Leah Wimpenny from Huddersfield and Adam Warburton from Wardle.
