Dallas Brass Band from Texas has announced that it is launching its inaugural Composers' Seminar.
Opportunity
It will be held on Sunday 17th May and is aimed at composers and arrangers looking to have their music performed, and who may not otherwise have had the opportunity.
Composers are invited to submit up to three compositions or arrangements of no more than 5 minutes duration.
An expert panel will select the pieces to be performed at the seminar, which will be broadcast live on Facebook. An audio recording will be sent to the composer of each performed piece.
Dallas Brass Band was formed in January 2017 and has quickly gone on to become one of Texas' premier ensembles. It is the only community brass band in Dallas with a leadership team that of David Childs (Principal Conductor) and Daniel Cook (Resident Conductor).
Exciting
Commenting on the initiative, Band President Andrew Wainwright told 4BR: "We are very much looking forward to what we hope will be the first of many of these exciting events.
Being a composer, I'm very aware of the importance of having music performed and that not everyone has access to a full-sized brass band who are willing to read their music.
We are hoping this seminar will fill that void. We are therefore requesting music from anyone who would like their music performed, experienced or inexperienced, from anywhere in the world."
Given that the seminar will be live streamed on Facebook, we are expecting a wide international audience. We are asking that submissions are made by Friday 1st MayAndrew Wainwright
Opportunity
He continued, "We must stress that this is not a contest. Rather, we want to give opportunity for as many composers as possible to have their works played.
Given that the seminar will be live streamed on Facebook, we are expecting a wide international audience. We are asking that submissions are made by Friday 1st May."
