Western Brass & Footscray Yarraville City Band has announced the appointment of Jared McCunnie as the new Musical Director of Western Brass.

Talented

A band spokesperson told 4BR: "Jared is such a talented composer, conductor and performer and we will be really excited to see the direction in which he takes the band.

It's great to see someone with such enthusiasm, drive and knowledge take the helm at Western Brass, and we look forward to a long and fruitful association."

Joyful

In response Jared said: "I would like to recognise the incredible work of Western's outgoing Musical Director Erin Ellenburg.

Erin has grown Western into one of the most joyful brass bands in Victoria and a formidable contest competitor. I wish her the very best of luck with her future musical endeavours."

I'm looking forward to working closely with the band from April, and paving its next musical chapterJared McCunnie.

Looking forward

He added: "I'm looking forward to working closely with the band from April, and paving its next musical chapter. In 2020 our focus will be on performing evocative and engaging concert programmes, but a contest appearance is also not off the cards!

Jared joins Louisa Trewartha, another Melbournian composer, as Footscray Yarraville City Band's second Musical Director. Louisa took the helm of Footscray Yarraville's A Grade band in 2019.
