Down by the Riverside...

Grand Shield champion NASUWT Riverside renew partnership with Prof Nicholas Childs for North of England Area challenge.

Riverside
The partnership won the Grand Shield in 2019

The 2019 Grand Shield winner NASUWT Riverside Band has announced that they will once again team up with Prof Nicholas Childs as they look to regain the North of England Regional Championship title in Durham in March.

Having claimed the Area honours in 2017 and 2018, the band missed out on a hat-trick last year as they came third, but they soon bounced back as they secured the Grand Shield and went on to make their debut at the British Open and Brass in Concert Championships.

Personnel changes

They have also announced a number of personnel changes. With the retirement of the stalwart John Bell on second trombone , Paul White has joined from Easington Colliery.

Steve Clarke has moved from second euphonium to Eb tuba and is replaced by Steve Clinton. Martin Davies, a first student at Durham University has joined the percussion team.

A spokesperson told 4BR: "We are delighted to once again team up with Prof Childs. Since the turn of the year rehearsals have gone well and the band is looking forward to the Regional contest in Durham."
