Blidworth Welfare Band has announced the appointment of the experienced Simon Gresswell as their new Musical Director.

The Yamaha tuba artist started his extensive playing career under the baton the legendary James Shepherd and has enjoyed successful enjoyed at the likes of Black Dyke Mills, Williams Fairey, Brighouse & Rastrick and YBS Bands.

Simon also led the Enderby Band to many contest successes and qualification to the National Finals, and told 4BR: "I'm delighted to take on the role at Blidworth. They are a great bunch of players with a super musical attitude.

I look forward to building on the excellent foundations laid by my predecessor Simon Oates."

A band spokesperson added: "This is a new era at Blidworth and we look forward to Simon moving the band forward in the New Year and to enjoy further success together."
