The Royal Northern College of Music has joined with Brass Bands England to invite applications for a Brass Band Conducting Workshop.
The event on Sunday 26th January, with its ethos of redressing the gender imbalance in the conducting leadership of brass bands, will be open to female-identifying, trans and non-binary conductors and will be led by the respected Norwegian conductor Halldis Rønning alongside RNCM Acting Head of Conducting, Mark Heron.
An hour-long introductory technique session will be followed by a two-hour workshop which will culminate in a short public performance as part of the RNCM Brass Band Festival.
Excellent opportunity
BBE's Education & Development Coordinator Sarah Baumann told 4BR: "This is an excellent opportunity for conductors of all levels and experience to improve their technique and be a part of this varied and exciting festival.
This is one of two events supported by BBE as part of our commitment to inclusion and diversity in the Brass Band sector, the second being a panel discussion focusing on real life experiences of women and aspirations for the future of women in Brass Bands, which I'm very much looking forward to chairing."
Workshops will be held at the RNCM in Manchester on Sunday 26th January from 10.00am.
Although workshops are free to participate in, the organisers cannot cover any related travel or accommodation expense.
