The youngsters of Saltash Training Band gained a mark of distinction on their competition debut in Plymouth recently.

The Saltash Training Band gave their first ever performance at the recent City of Plymouth Music Festival under new MD Ross Farr-Semmens.

They received some really positive comments from the adjudicator and were awarded a Certificate of Distinction and a trophy by gaining 87 marks.

The youngest member of the band is aged 7 and the oldest — well just a little bit older, but young at heart.

Real atmosphere

The ensemble played 'Marching Tune', 'Abide with Me', 'German Dance and 'Au Claire de la Lune', with the adjudicator from the British & International Federation of Festivals variously describing their playing showing "great concentration and precision", "lively and clean"and creating "a real atmosphere".

Proud

Their proud MD later wrote on their Facebook site: "Well done everyone!! I'm so proud of you all to make it to the festival, looking smart, and playing so well... keep up the fine work!! And here's to much more of the same to come!!"
