Young Scots to make the Cutt

Young brass and percussion players will have the chance to enjoy a workshop day with Garry Cutt and members of Fairey Band — as well as rounding off the day with a cracking concert appearance.

Young brass and percussion players from across Scotland will be given the exciting opportunity to perform with the joint forces of Fairey and Whitburn Bands.

The cross boarder heavyweights will be performing in a concert at St Mary's Episcopal Cathedral in Edinburgh on 30th November (3.00pm)

Workshop

However, before the event, principal players from Fairey Band will host a workshop at Whitburn Band Hall from 10.00am supported by the Scottish Brass Band Association and Creative Scotland.

The participants will prepare a number of pieces throughout the morning, including working within sections and full band rehearsals with Fairey MD, Garry Cutt.

They will then perform some of the works alongside Fairey and Whitburn in massed band items at the end of the afternoon concert.

Looking forward

Garry told 4BR: "I'm really looking forward to bringing Fairey Band north of the border. The concert is going to be great and the workshop will offer young players a great opportunity to pick up tips and advice and learn from some great players."

Whitburn Band Chairman Charlie Farren told 4BR: "Everyone at Whitburn is looking forward to welcoming Garry and Fairey to Scotland for what is sure to be a fantastic concert. It will be great to work with Garry once more after our successful partnership at the recent National Championships."

He added: "This is a great opportunity for young players from across Scotland to learn from some of the best talent in UK banding, and to perform on stage with two of the best bands in the country."
