New MD takes the helm at North Skelton

All smiles from the players as Gareth Sykes becomes the new Musical Director at North Skelton Band

North Skelton
North Skelton enjoyed their appearance at the Cheltenham National Finals this year

The North Skelton Band has announced the appointment of Gareth Sykes as their new Musical Director.

The experienced trombonist has gained a wealth of experience, having played with the likes of Grimethorpe, Brighouse & Rastrick and Reg Vardy Bands, and has a growing reputation as a respected conductor.

He joins the current North of England, Buxton and Durham League champions with immediate effect after previous MD Lewius Wilkinson moved to south Wales to study at the RWCM&D.

Clear vision

A spokesperson told 4BR: "We're thrilled to have managed to appoint Gareth. His clear vision and experience as both a player and conductor is just what the band needs to help continue its forward momentum."

Excited

That will see North Skelton promoted to the First Section in 2020, with Gareth adding: "I'm excited at the prospect of working with a real rising star in the North of England.

The band has a great reputation and a very talented set of players. I hope together we can add to what is already an impressive roll of honour."
