The respected music educator, teacher and conductor, Alun F Williams has been appointed interim administrator of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain organisation (NYBBGB) with immediate effect.
The appointment, which also includes the National Children's Brass Band of Great Britain (NCBBGB), follows the death of long-standing administrator, Phillip Biggs. A permanent appointment is expected to be made in 2020.
Successful career
Until his retirement in 2014, Alun enjoyed a successful career in education, culminating in him becoming the Head of Gwent Music Service.
Under his tenure it maintained its position as one of the leading peripatetic music services in the UK, despite pressures created by the long term diminution of local authority funding streams.
He was also administrative head of the hugely successful Gwent Youth Brass Band for more than two decades. His work was recognised with the presentation of the Brian Hicks Memorial Award, and The Worshipful Company of Musicians' Mortimer Medal in 2005.
Over 40 years of experience
NYBBGB spokesperson Dr Bob Childs said: "With more than forty years of experience in musical education, brass bands and arts administration, I'm sure Alun will continue the fantastic work done by Philip Biggs.
Alun will be working with the trustees and me over the coming months to ensure that the National Youth and National Childrens' Bands continue to be a beacon of musical excellence."

Delighted
In response Alun F Williams added: "As a former member of the National Youth Band, I'm delighted to accept the invitation to take on this role.
I look forward to continuing the excellent work of Philip Biggs, and hope to further develop his work and vision during this period for the organisation as a whole."
