Ashton bid fond farewell to Chalk duo

Phil and Claire Chalk have taken the decision to step down from the MD and principal cornet roles at Ashton under Lyne Band.

Ashton-under-Lyne Band has announced that Phil and Claire Chalk will be stepping down from their roles as Musical Director and principal cornet respectively due to increasing business and family commitments.

Success

Phil re-joined the band in 2014 after a hugely successful first spell in which he led the band to two appearances at the British Open. On his return the band won the North West First Section Area title and promotion back to the Championship Section, finishing fourth in consecutive years and narrowly missing out on qualification for the National Finals.

Under his baton the band has also been hugely successful on the annual Whit Friday and march and hymn tune circuits.

We would like to thank Phil and Claire for the significant contribution and commitment over the last six years and wish them all the best for the futureAshton under Lyne Band

Admired

Claire joined the band in 2013 on flugel horn but soon became a much admired principal cornet.
A spokesperson told 4BR: "We have been incredibly lucky to have such a talented, consistent player on the end chair for such a long period of time.

Her wonderful performances saw her win numerous individual awards, notably at Whit Friday and become a wonderful concert soloist.

They added: "We would like to thank Phil and Claire for the significant contribution and commitment over the last six years and wish them all the best for the future."
