The experienced Ian Scott has become the new Musical Director at Foss Dyke Band.

  Ian Scott will take the helm at Foss Dyke

The Foss Dyke Band has announced the appointment of the experienced Ian Scott as their new Musical Director.

With many years of playing with the likes of Yorkshire Main Colliery and City of Coventry Bands, as well as a spell in New Zealand where he enjoyed considerable success as a trombone player and conductor, he joins as the band looks forward to promotion to the First Section in 2020.

Experience

Chairman Nigel Bevan told 4BR: "Ian brings a plethora of experience and we cannot wait to perform under his baton. I would like to thank the outgoing MD, Michael Howley, who spearheaded our resurgence in the last three years and which sees us return to the First Section. We wish him and his family all the very best for the future."

Band Manager Garry Ornsby added: "Everyone welcomes the appointment of Ian. He has worked tirelessly to make the band perform to its potential and takes his role one step further by trying to fill the band room for every rehearsal."

Arrivals

That has seen the arrival of a number of new players, including cornets, Alan Garbutt, Stephen Macdonald, Jack French and Zoe Buttler; horns, Peter Gallagher and Alan Summers, and Barrie Tupper on solo euphonium.

Also joining the ranks have Garry Ornsby on baritone and tubas, Dave Kirkby and Emyrs Davis. The percussion team sees the arrival of Soozy Evison and Clive Platts.

Speaking about his appointment Ian Scott told 4BR: "Having spent the last 14 months working as Associate MD, I'm delighted to be able to take on the MD role full time.

The band has recruited some very good players. All have a great attitude and are hard working, resulting in vastly improved levels of commitment, and with a great organisation team we are all looking forward to our promotion with real optimism."
