Dallas Brass Band has announced the appointments of David Childs as its new Principal Conductor and Daniel Cook as Resident Conductor.
The band, which is the only community brass band in Dallas, was formed in January 2017 and has quickly established itself as one of the premier amateur music ensembles in the Metroplex.
Look forward
David Childs was appointed Professor of Euphonium at the University of North Texas in 2018 and has been actively involved in developing the British brass band model in the US.
He told 4BR: "Having worked with the Dallas Brass Band and its founder, Andrew Wainwright previously, I look forward to further collaborations in the future.
Brass bands remain close to my heart, so to have the opportunity to assist this exciting ensemble develop artistically is a great thrill."
He will be joined by Daniel Cook, who is currently on the faculty at the University of North Texas where he conducts the Wind Ensemble, teaches conducting, and serves as the Director of Athletic Bands — including the remarkable 425-member Green Brigade Marching Band.
Thrilled
Daniel has completed coursework toward a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Wind Conducting at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. He holds his Master of Music degree in Conducting from the same institution.
He added: "I'm so thrilled to be coming on board with this wonderful organisation. The band has made tremendous strides since its founding in 2017 and the level of music making has risen quickly.
I'm eager to get to work with the ensemble and explore the full potential available, both in terms of artistic achievement and community integration."

Wealth of experience
In response, Band President Andrew Wainwright, told 4BR: "We're delighted that both David and Daniel have agreed to work with the band. Both bring with them a wealth of experience and their accomplishments speak for themselves.
We are in no doubt that they are the perfect combination to help take the band forward as we continue to develop as an ensemble and organisation. We are very much looking forward to working with them and experiencing the wide range of knowledge they have to offer.
Thanks
He added: "I would like to thank our previous Resident Conductor Jesse Rajabi for his work with the band over the past year, and look forward to seeing what the future holds for the band."
David and Daniel will work with the band for their upcoming performances at Texas Christian University on 20th October.
