Scottish Youth set for National showcase

The trio of National Youth Brass Bands of Scotland are getting ready for their end of course concerts

Scotland
The players are getting ready for their weekend concert appearances

More than 170 talented young musicians have been working hard at Strathallan School in Perthshire this week on the 2019 National Youth Brass Band of Scotland (NYBBS) summer course.

And over the last few days they have been taking part in an action-packed programme of rehearsals, concerts and social activities as part of one of the three bands that cater for their playing development.

Edinburgh concert

On Wednesday the senior National Youth Band performed in the famous Ross Bandstand in Edinburgh's Princes Street Gardens — just below the iconic Castle under the baton of conductor Ian Porthouse, whilst the Reserve and Children's Bands had a chance to take part in social activities before their concert at Forgendenny Village Hall on Wednesday evening.

Incredible

Ian told 4BR: "It's been a great course to be involved in and the tutors and players have been incredible. The concert showed just how much progress has been made in such a short space of time — vibrant, fun and mature playing from start to finish."

All three bands are now working towards their end of course concerts on Saturday, which will take place at Strathallan School and Stirling's Albert Halls.
