The financial boost will go towards the band's ambitious future plans

The Norwegian National champion Eikanger-Bjorsvik has gained a significant cash boost from private supporters and added to by the national government to back their future musical aims.

Their successful work in forming long term links with influential individuals and companies with cultural philanthropy at their heart has recently seen the band gain grants worth over NOK 1,250000 (£116,000).

Donations and support

The donations from Mr. Trond Mohn, one of Norway's richest individuals, and The Abraham Odfjell Foundation, also met the criteria for 25% additional support from the Norwegian Ministry of Culture, giving the band an extra boost of NOK 312,500 (approx £30,000).

Speaking to 4BR, Band spokesperson Viggo Bjørge said that this substantial financial injection to their funds will enable the band to plan new exciting educational projects as well as invest in their structure and secure future international commitments.

"We have worked hard to develop strong links to the business community in Bergen and the surrounding area, and to show that Eikanger has the ability to be a positive cultural role model on a regional and national basis.

That has been appreciated and supported by influential philanthropic individuals such as Mr Trond Mohn who has given over 5 billion Krone to cultural causes over the past few years, as well as companies that see the importance in investing in culture — including brass bands."

Generous support

He added: "This generous support and that from the Ministry of Culture will enable us to develop the band, strengthen our educational outreach work, develop our rehearsal facilities, increase our ability to undertake innovative projects and secure our long term international commitments."

Examples of these areas have seen the band recently perform at the prestigious Innsbruck Promenade Concert series and will also see them hold their annual Summer School where over 120 children will enjoying tutoring from band members.

It was confirmed that Eikanger will also perform at the prestigious Brass Wind Festival later this year as well as take part in the Siddis Entertainment contest.
