4BR has been informed that Ciaran Young has announced his decision to step down as solo baritone with Brighouse & Rastrick. It marks the end of a decade of commitment to the current Yorkshire Champion.
Massive part
Speaking to 4BR he said: "The time has come where my career and family has to come first. Brighouse deserves 100% commitment throughout the year, which I've been unable to achieve over recent months, especially with their increasingly demanding contest, concert and recording schedule.
B&R has been a massive part of my musical life, with many highlights such as three National titles and four Yorkshire Area wins, as well as memorable tours with The Unthanks, playing for Chris Evans, Alfie Boe and Michael Ball, and a host of fantastic concerts and projects."
Tough decision
He added: "It has been an extremely tough decision but one, I hope, will be mutually beneficial to both parties.
I would like to thank all the conductors who have helped keep the band driving forward, especially Allan Morrison, Sandy Smith, Garry Cutt and most recently David Thornton. Then, of course, there is David King, who made me into the musician I am today.
I'll enjoy some time off from regular banding but I'm sure to be playing again soon."

Thanks
In response to the news, Brighouse & Rastrick President, Lyndon R Stacey told 4BR: "Ciaran has been an integral part of the band's greatest successes over the last decade.
We do have a demanding schedule at B&R as we look to innovate and continually raise our own standards. So while it is always sad to part ways with a long-standing colleague and a player of his quality, we do thank Ciaran hugely for his efforts and talent and we wish him every success in his future endeavours."
