The members of Camborne Junior Band gave their conductor Alan Pope BEM a brilliant, and rather unique 'Get Well' message on the weekend when they paid a very special visit to him in hospital.
It all started on the Friday evening when Alan was taken ill. However, instead of waiting patiently for the ambulance to arrive to take him to hospital, he spent the time ringing around for a conductor to take his band to two weekend engagements.
Couldn't believe it
On hearing the news Camborne Junior Band's euph play Dave Wilton stepped into the breach, and the following day he took up the baton for a local village fete.
"I couldn't quite believe what Alan was doing,"he said. "Instead of thinking of his own health he was busy sorting out a band job.
That is typical of the man — so I put his mind at rest, told him to wait for the ambulance, get himself to hospital and leave it to me, as everything would be fine."
Dave continued: "On Saturday afternoon we played at the local village fete and during the interval some of our percussion team came up with the idea of us playing 'Danny Boy' outside Alan's window like the 'Brassed Off ' film, as the hospital was not too far away."
I think it gave Alan a great boost and we are all now looking forward to seeing him back in action with us as soon as possibleDave Wilton
Help at hand
However, the band didn't have the music with them, but with the help of friends at Lanner & District Band and the staff at the hospital they managed to set up outside the window near Alan's ward and started to play!
"We have to say a huge thanks to Mark Bray and Lee Rouse from the Lanner & District band for helping us to get the music,"Dave added.
"Lee in particular went out of his way to help, as were the brilliant staff at on Wheel Prosper Ward at Treliske Hospital who were amazing.
I think it gave Alan a great boost and we are all now looking forward to seeing him back in action with us as soon as possible."
