Cory soprano star Steve Stewart is to be the featured soloist with Fulham Brass Band in a free concert this Sunday (12th May).

Over the Horizon

The brilliant Scotsman, who helped his band regain the European title in Montreux recently, will be performing Norman Bearcroft's Salvation Army classic 'High Fidelity', as well as 'Over the Horizon', written especially for him by composer Christopher Bond, and 'Live and Let Die', which has become something of a signature piece for him over the last few years.

It will be the band's first concert appearance since qualifying for the National Finals, and in doing so, gaining promotion to the Championship Section for the first time in its 124-year history.

Two world premieres will also be featured on the programme by Kenneth Downie and David Collins.

World premieres

'My Bonnie' was written by Kenneth at the request of Fulham's conductor, John Ward, as a first birthday present for his daughter and is a fantasy waltz based on 'My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean' and references Bonnie's Christmas Day arrival with a beautiful treatment of 'Away in a Manger'.

Meanwhile, 'Steal Away' was written by David Collins for Fulham Brass and based on the spiritual of the same name. David has drawn inspiration from several choral settings of this haunting melody and uses various groupings within the band to illuminate the highly emotive text of the song.

Two world premieres will also be featured on the programme by Kenneth Downie and David Collins4BR

Time and place

The concert will also feature 'Diversions on a Bass Theme' (George Lloyd) , 'Festive Overture' (Shostakovich) and 'The Oines of the Appian Way' (Respighi).

The concert commences at 3.30pm at St Etheldreda's Church, Fulham
