There has been plenty of movement at the top of the All Brass Radio in the past month, as for the first time in over a year Kirsty Abbots and 'You Raise Me Up' drops out of the podium slots.
Such has been the increase in people voting for their favourites that it didn't make it into the Top 20 for April. Never fear, the fine playing of Kirsty and Carlton Main Frickley Colliery still made it into the Top 10 with a solo from the movie 'Yentl' entitled 'Papa Can You Hear Me?'
New podium
A new podium has emerged. In the top spot is 'Serenade' played by the Flowers Band. In Italian, serenata means 'an evening song', and the noun serenade is a tune played or sung, either for one specific person or for a larger audience, outside. Many tunes have the title of "Serenade"and this is an example of a light, evening time melody.
In second place is 'Requiem Aeternum' written by Herbert Howells and recorded by Brighouse & Rastrick. The track comes from the band's new CD 'Bliss & Howells' — featuring the music of Sir Arthur Bliss and Herbert Howells.
Third place is held by The International Staff Band of the Salvation Army with the inspiring tune 'Truth Aflame'. Kevin Norbury based this on two settings of the words 'Thou Christ of burning, cleansing flame.' Following a quiet opening on cornets and glockenspiel, the modern melody 'Send the Fire' is introduced, with trombones and cornets echoing the initial phrases.
