4BR has been informed of the death of Govan Salvation Army Band retired Bandmaster, John Baillie.

John passed away peacefully on Sunday 7th April in hospital following a prolonged period of poor health.

John was Bandmaster of Govan Band for many years, and led them with great distinction having previously served as their principal cornet. Under John's direction the band travelled widely across the UK and Europe, taking part in many recordings and broadcasts.

He is survived by his wife Jessie, and son Nigel.
