Redruth enjoys renewed success

A famous Cornish banding name is enjoying rejuvenated success after their latest win at the Regional Championships in Torquay.

Redruth
It was the first Area win for the band since 1998.

There was further cause for celebration for Redruth Town Band on the weekend in Torquay.

Not only was it the band's first Regional title win in over 20 years — their last being in the Second Section way back in 1998, but follows a resurgence in their contesting fortunes since the arrival of MD Andrew Craze.

Proud history

The newly crowned Fourth Section champion used to compete in the Championship Section until 1990 and has a proud history that stretches back to 1832.

Now though they have followed up their recent SWBBA contest win in November with the Fourth Section title, beating off the challenge of 16 excellent rivals in the process with a rendition of the test-piece 'Stantonbury Festival' that the judges called '…really lovely' and '…with plenty of shape and fun!'.

Remarkable result

A band spokesperson told 4BR: "Andrew's professional interpretation and consistent approach to the musical development of the band have improved dedication and commitment, which has brought out the best of all the players raising standards to achieve this remarkable result.

Fund raising for Cheltenham is now a priority and we will be actively financial support to help get us there."
