The death has been announced of Dan Williams, the highly respected member of the Lewis Merthyr Band and one of Welsh banding's most popular figures.

A former RAF physical training instructor and bodybuilding champion, including winning the title of 'Mr Wales', he also went on to participate in the famous 'Mr Universe' even.

Thoughts

Band Manager Paul Williams told 4BR: "Dan was a member of the cornet section of Lewis Merthyr during their Champion Band of Wales winning period during the 1980s and also played with Parc & Dare and Treherbert.

Our thoughts go out to his family and friends at this sad time."

Funeral

The funeral will take place at 10.00am on Thursday 24th January at Coychurch Crematorium, Coychurch, Bridgend (CF35 6AB).
