A number of leading contests are already putting in place all the details bands require if they wish to attend their events in 2019.
The famous West of England Bandsmen's Festival in Bugle has certainly been quick off the mark and has announced the details of the test-pieces that will be used for the event to be hold in the Cornish town Saturday 15th June.
Cornish emphasis
The emphasis this year (the 95th time it takes place) is on music by Cornish composers and those with Cornish connections, with up and coming musical voices such as Gareth Churcher and Christopher Bond rubbing shoulders with the late, great Goff Richards.
Several Salvation Army pieces make a welcome return with Eric Ball, who had a very close connection with the Festival, providing the classic Championship Section set-work, 'Journey into Freedom'.
Prizes
The adjudicator this year will by Cory euphonium star, Glyn Williams, whilst there is the usual vast array of prizes and awards on offer as well as a very generous prize fund, with £1000 going to the winners of the Championship Section, who will be able to walk-away with the Royal Trophy, presented by the then Prince of Wales, Duke of Cornwall to the Festival in 1913.
Bands should note that to assist with potential player shortages due to summer holiday breaks the contest rules have now been changed to allow a band to field up to 5 guest players.
