The Scottish Brass Band Association has announced the launch to find its 2019 Young Scottish Composer of the Year.
It will be the third time that the competition has been run and is open to young compositional talent up to the age of 23.
Original piece
They are being invited to submit an original piece for brass soloist with full brass band accompaniment. The choice of solo instrument should be any from the brass band line-up — from soprano cornet to tuba.
The scores should be submitted in PDF format along with an MP3 recording.
Prizes
A panel of judges will choose the top three entries, with prizes of £1000, £500 and £250 on offer, as well as the winning piece being premiered at the 2019 National Youth Brass Band of Scotland summer concert.
The three winning composers will also be offered mentor sessions with well-known Scottish composers.
The closing date for entries is 1st March 2019.
