Russell is a former principal cornet of the band and previously led them as Musical Director from 2002 to 2003.

Fantastic track record

Speaking about the appointment Band Manager Mark Wilkinson told 4BR: "Russell has a fantastic track record with Foden's, consisting of four victories and two runner-up finishes out of six contests entered together.

We thoroughly enjoyed a successful working relationship leading up to the Nationals and believe Russell will make a valuable addition to our high profile conducting team."

Pleased

He added: "Michael Fowles, who now enters his twelfth year as our Musical Director, will continue with our day to day direction and we are extremely pleased that Bramwell Tovey has agreed to continue in his role as President as well as becoming our Honorary Artistic Advisor.
