Marsden Silver Prize Band has announced the appointment of Andrew Lofthouse as their new Musical Director with immediate effect.

A band spokesperson told 4BR: "Following the retirement of Alan Widdop we have undertaken the search for the right person to take us forward. After a number of applications and auditions, Andrew emerged as the outstanding candidate and we are delighted that he has accepted the position.

Experience

The new conductor is a former player with the band, and in 2006 participated in the Erasmus exchange programme, completing his third year of his degree course at the Norwegian Academy of Music. During that time he played with Jaren and Eikanger-Bjorsvik.

He is also a former principal trumpet of the Central Band of the Royal Air Force and Lead Trumpet in the Royal Air Force Squadronaires.
