Shirebrook announces changes for 2019

The popular Shirebrook Open Entertainment Contest has announced some important changes to its 2019 event.

Shirebrook Town Council has announced details of its popular 'Open Entertainment Contest' which will take place on the 7th July next year.

The council is one of the most proactive supporters of the brass band movement, and has already announced a full line-up of bands that will be performing summer concerts from July to September.

Concerts

Already booked in for Sunday afternoon concerts are Shirebrook MW (14th July); Pleasley Colliery Welfare (28th July); Deepcar (4th August); Ilkeston Brass (18th August) and Strata Brass (1st September)

The 2019 Shirebrook 'Open Entertainment Contest' on 7th July will incorporate two major changes, with two sections of competition and bands able to perform extended programmes of 20 minutes in duration to coincide with the requirements of the popular Bolsover Festival of Brass later in the year.

Two sections

Section A will be for Championship, First and Second Section bands, with Section B for Third and Fourth Section competitors. The event will take place at Shirebrook Leisure Centre in Mansfield (NG20 8JQ).

There will be no registration requirements and the contest is open to any band to enter, contesting or non-contesting with a generous prize fund seeing the winner in Section A taking home £750, with podium prizes of £400, £200 and £200 for most entertaining Second Section Band.

The winner of Section B will head home with £300, with podium prizes of £200, £100 and £200 to the highest placed Fourth Section band.

The entry fee is £90.

Boarshurst Silver Band

February 17 • Boarshurst Silver Band, NW Championship Section, requires a BBb player, flugel, and front row cornet player. Under MD Jamie Prophet, the band have an ambitious and varied calendar for 2025, including NW Area, Spring Festival and Whit Friday.


Mid Rhondda Band

February 14 • Mid Rhondda Band are looking for the following players : Front Row Cornet, Solo Trombone, Eb Bass, Kit and Tuned Percussionists. The band will be competing in the 3rd Section at the Welsh Area. Contest & concert engagements in the diary for 2025
