Composer Philip Sparke will become only the third British musician to receive the prestigious International Award at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago next month.

First presented in 1992, it honours individuals who contribute to instrumental music education around the world, and sees Philip follow in the footsteps of composer Timothy Reynish and conductor and publisher Geoffrey Brand.

Talking to 4BR Philip said: "This will be my 32nd consecutive visit to The Midwest Clinic and it is becoming more of an international event every year, attracting performers and delegates from all over the globe.

The Midwest Clinic showcases up to 28 one-hour showcase events — from seminars and presentations on a huge variety of educational and commercial topics to performances from world leading musicians.

Birchwood Community Brass Band

September 14 • Due to retirement, Birchwood Community Brass Band requires the services of a new MD. We are a friendly Warrington based noncontesting band and training band of mixed ability looking for an MD to continue the musical development of both groups.


Tintwistle Band

September 14 • . We currently have a vacancy for a 2nd horn player, and with lots of exciting engagements coming up we would love to get this seat filled! . We are a second section band, and rehearse every Monday and Thursday 8-10pm at our own bandroom in Tintwistle.
