The renowned musician Derick Kane has announced that he is to retire from his role as principal euphonium of the International Staff Band.
In speaking to the British Bandsman publication he stated: "Following 42 years' service with the ISB I have taken the decision to retire as principal Euphonium of the band.
These decisions never come lightly or easily, however, I look back on many happy years and special occasions with the ISB with some very special people making great music. I wish the band well in the future."
It is understood that he will make his last appearance with the band at the 2019 RNCM Brass Band Festival4BR
Final bow
Having joined the ISB in 1976, Derick became revered throughout both the Salvation and secular banding movements for his playing, gaining friends and admirers all over the world. In 1991 he was the recipient of the prestigious 'Euphonium Player of the Year' award.
It is understood that he will make his last appearance with the band at the 2019 RNCM Brass Band Festival.
