The Yorkshire Imperial Metals Urquhart Travel Band has appointed Simon Gresswell as their Musical Director with immediate effect.

With the experience of a remarkably successful playing career with the likes of Brighouse & Rastrick, Black Dykes, Fairey and Yorkshire Building Society, Simon has also enjoyed success with the baton, with a successful tenure at the Enderby Band in the Midlands.

Delighted

However, he is now looking towards this new challenge as he told 4BR: "I'm delighted to have been asked to take up the post of Musical Director with such a respected band.

As a youngster, 'Imps' were for me, one of the very best bands in the world and I'm keen to build on that heritage and try to develop them back towards that stature."

Expertise

In response principal cornet player Alan Fowler said: "We're delighted to have attracted a musician of such experience and skill. Simon has a wealth of knowledge and expertise and we hope that he can help lead us to as much success as he has already had with his previous bands.

We're currently working on signings and are building on the momentum which has seen some key seats filled, and we see working with Simon as a big draw for perspective players."
