A commemorative musical partnership between one of Norway's foremost professional orchestras and one of its leading brass bands will take place in Stavanger this evening.
Anniversary
Conducted by Christian Vasquez, the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra and Stavanger Brass Band will perform 'Suvenir', a new 10-minute work by Torstein Aagaard-Nilsen, commissioned for the 100th anniversary of the Norwegian Band Federation (NMF).
World premiere
The concert at Stavanger's Konserthus will also mark the first time in nearly 20 years that an orchestra and brass band will be featured as an integral whole in a world premiere composition performance.
Also included in the concert is a performance of Søren Hyldgaard's 'Concerto Borealis for Bass Trombone and Orchestra' played by Stefan Schulz, as well as Elgar's 'Enigma Variations'.
