The recent British Open weekend was not only a memorable one for the supporters of the Cory Band as they were declared 2018 champion, but also for fans of the iconic film 'Brassed Off!'.
The award-winning bittersweet tale of pit closures and National Championship winning success was showcased with a special screening on Friday night at Symphony Hall, with Grimethorpe Colliery Band delivering the music live from the stage.
Quiz winner
The event attracted a large and enthusiastic audience too — including 4BR British Open quiz winner Lynn Jameson who correctly identified that the name of the female flugel playing character in the film was 'Gloria'.
Over 400 people tried their luck (with some answers adding her famous, but slightly risqué busty epithet), but it was Lynne, who plays horn for the Old Silkstone Band near Halifax that was picked out of the hat.
It's a lovely film and I've already seen it with Grimethorpe playing in Leeds — but you can't tire of a great story and the great musicQuiz winner, Lynn Jameson
Delighted
"I was delighted to win the tickets,"she said as she collected them from British Open test-piece composer Bert Appermont on the night.

The competition was supported by Band Supplies Ltd and Grimethorpe Colliery Band who presented Lynn with two of their latest CDs.
