The death has been announced of Barry Ashton, the highly respected former cornet player with Ravensthorpe Subscription, Hammonds Sauce Works, Brighouse & Rastrick and Lindley Bands.
Barry passed away on Thursday 30th August, aged 78. He leaves a wife, Jacqueline, a son and daughter and three grandchildren.
During his time with Hammonds under the late Geoffrey Whitham he was part of a band that won numerous major awards, including the Brass in Concert Championship title in 19784BR
Long banding career
During a long and enjoyable banding career Barry graced many concert and contest stages with his bands — including performances at Sydney Opera House and the Royal Albert Hall.

He also toured Australia with the band in 1976, performing in Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Newcastle and Brisbane, to great acclaim.
