The Thurlstone Band has just returned from their first ever trip abroad — a four day trip to Bruges in Belgium.

After an early departure from their base in south Yorkshire they made the trip over the Channel to arrive at the four star hotel in central Bruges before spending the evening exploring the town, bars and restaurants.

Fully appreciated

Sunday saw them give a concert in the main square — attracting a huge crowd for a two hour set of music that was appreciated fully.

Another free evening followed before the morning departure to the town of Ypres, where the band gave a concert in the town square in front of another fine audience. A little later the band assembled at the famous Menin Gate to take part in the famous Last Post Ceremony of Remembrance.

Moving experience

MD Graham Bates told 4BR: "This was a moving experience for the band who rose magnificently to the occasion and received high acclaim for the performances of 'Prelude on Lavenham' and 'The Day thou Gavest'."

The mini-tour ended with a return to Bruges for the final evening and a chance to visit some more bars before a couple of hours' morning shopping and sightseeing before the trip home.
