The organisers of the Brass in Concert Championship have announced the adjudicators for the inaugural Youth Brass in Concert Championship which will be held at Sage Gateshead on Saturday 17th November in association with Yamaha, Banks Group and British Bandsman.
In keeping with the event's worldwide reach, the legendary entertainment master Richard Evans will be joined by the inspirational youth band pioneer Helen Harrelson to make the all important decisions.
And in keeping with the format of the adult contest the following day, Richard will be asked adjudicate on the 'Quality of Performance' of the six competing bands, whilst Helen will be tasked with judging the 'Entertainment & Presentation' element.
Same principles
Brass in Concert Chairman John Woods told 4BR: "We're delighted to be able to reveal such high-quality judges for this new event, with the adjudication format following the same principles of the main Championship contest with 60% of the weighting applied to the quality of playing.
Both Richard and Helen are vastly experienced professional musicians; Richard conducted nine winning performances at Brass in Concert, and Helen, not only having a wonderful playing CV on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean, but also being one of the inspirational figures behind the successes of the Fountain City Youth Brass Bands.
Helen has also recently received an award for her outstanding contribution to music education from the Kansas Bandmasters Association."
20 minute sets
John Woods concluded: "The six youth bands will perform a 20-minute own-choice entertainment set largely mirroring the senior event on Sunday. The first prize is £1,000.
Competing bands:
Elland Silver Youth
Houghton Area Youth
Rochdale Borough Youth
Scottish Borders Youth
Wardle Academy Youth
