Lancashire Music Service has just enjoyed putting on a fantastic new festival entitled 'Brass at the Seaside' in the pretty coastal resort of Lytham St Annes.
With great weather to add to the obvious attractions of one of the most popular seaside towns in the UK, 14 bands of all levels took part; from school children aged 7 and 8, to Astley Unlimited Band made up mainly of players of retirement age — the eldest being a sprightly 84!
All together Coppull & Standish Juniors, St Helens Youth, Balderstone Brass, Lancashire Youth, Freckleton, West Lancashire Schools, Continental Brass, Charnock Richard Training, Freckleton Juniors, HONK!, Lancashire Youth Street Band, Kearsley Youth Brass Band and Astley Youth Band took part.
Delighted
An understandably delighted organiser Helen Minshall told 4BR: "What a wonderful weekend we had! So many players of all ages took part, and everyone had a great time, players and audiences alike.
We heard some fantastic music, and this was such a popular event that we've already had many enquiries from bands wanting to take part next year."

Unbeatable formula
Helen added: "Basically — bring your band to the seaside for a day out, play for up to an hour, have fish and chips and ice creams and a fun time on the beach. It's an unbeatable formula for success!"
